Kleven Delivers Cable Layer to NKT

NKT Cables has taken delivery of the cable-laying vessel from Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven.

The build number 372, previously known as ABB Victoria, is part of the acquisition of ABB HV Cables business which was wrapped up in March 1, 2017.

The 140 by 30 meters vessel, based on a 306 CLV design from Salt Ship Design was ordered by ABB in September 2015. Following the NKT acquisition, the vessel had undergone a paint job, switching from ABB’s red to NKT’s blue.

“This cutting-edge cable-laying vessel will complete our project execution set-up and cements our position as a global, leading cable solutions provider. Now, we can offer our customers turn-key solutions which provides them with increased project flexibility and lower execution risk,” said Michael Hedegaard Lyng, president and CEO of NKT Cables.

The vessel will be at the NKT Cables plant in Karlskrona, Sweden, for a naming ceremony on May 4, 2017, after which it is scheduled for its first cable-laying project.
