Korea assumes IGU presidency

South Korea on Monday officially took over the presidency of the International Gas Union for the period from 2018 until 2021.

Joo-Myung Kang of Korea was officially named as the president of the association at a gas event in Washington, taking over from David Carroll of the US.

“The Republic of Korea assumes the presidency of an organization and an industry that is as strong as it has ever been,” said Joo-Myung.

“Under our leadership, the industry will build on the great work that has already been done under the USA and prior presidencies and intensify our collective efforts in advancing the role of natural gas in a sustainable energy future,” he added.

Li Yalan of China has been named vice president of the International Gas Union and she will serve in that role before assuming the presidency of the gas association in 2021.
