Kvaerner Sends Off Second Johan Sverdrup Jacket

Norwegian contractor Kvaerner has sent on its way the second jacket destined for the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea.

The drilling platform jacket, named ‘Vilje’, left Kvaerner’s shipyard in Verdal at 08:45 on Wednesday, the company reported on social media.

The jacket was named earlier this month by its Gothmother, Synne Magnus.

The first steel jacket for the Johan Sverdrup field centre left the shipyard in Verdal in July last year. The 26 000-tonnes riser platform is also the largest ever built for use on the Norwegian shelf.

Kvaerner was awarded the contract for three jackets and the utility and living quarters (ULQ) topside together with KBR for the Johan Sverdrup development.

The drilling platform jacket will be followed by the process platform jacket to be completed during summer 2018.

Johan Sverdrup is one of the five largest oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf. With expected resources of between 2.1—3.1 billion barrels of oil equivalents.

Statoil is the operator of Johan Sverdrup with a working interest of 40.0267%. The licence partners are Lundin Norway (22.6%), Petoro (17.36%), Aker BP (11.5733%) and Maersk Oil (8.44%).
