Lithuania Launches LNG Quay Construction Works

Lithuania Launches LNG Quay Construction Works

On 20 January, Lithuanian Minister of Energy Jaroslav Neverovič participated at a ceremony, during which a capsule with a message for future generations, symbolizing the start of concrete placement in quay, was sunk to the LNG terminal quay piles.

In his opening speech Neverovič noted that the past thirteen months of work and progress in the LNG terminal project is a proof that Lithuania is capable not only to scale the project on time, but can also accelerate it.

Following the EU requirements, LNG terminal is being built as one of objects of the public infrastructure. Therefore, there will be no restrictions on access to the terminal capabilities.

This year „Klaipedos nafta“ will organize an open auction for the capacity of the LNG terminal, in which every company with a transparent and non-discriminatory basis will be able to participate.

This is the first project with such kind of infrastructure in the Baltic region. We appreciate this project as competitive and, by keeping in mind that port of Klaipeda is an ice-free zone, we see the perspective on „Klaipedos nafta“ becoming a regional hub for gas trading“ said the minister.

Quay construction works should be completed by October 1, 2014.
