LNG-powered cement carrier bunkers in Risavika

Skangas, a unit of Gasum informed that the newly built LNG-powered cement carrier, Greenland, recently bunkered chilled gas in Norway’s Westport Stavanger (Risavika havn).

The operation was performed by a truck-to-ship method, Skangas said in a statement.

The LNG-powered cement carrier was recently delivered to its owner JT cement, a joint venture between the shipping company Erik Thun and KG Jebsen Cement of Norway.

According to Ferus Smit, the Dutch shipbuilder that constructed the Greenland, the vessel is the first ever dry cargo vessel with an LNG fuelled propulsion system and LNG tanks integrated inside the hull.

Greenland will be followed by its sister vessel, also powered by LNG, expected to be delivered during May 2016.
