LPG carrier in distress in North Sea

The Yara Gas III LPG carrier has sounded distress calls earlier following water intrusion into the engine room.

According to reports, the vessel is some 50 nautical miles east of the Ekofisk in the North Sea, with nine passengers on board.

Norway’s NRK reports the vessel received three pumps from Ekofisk and two additional pumps delivered by Norway’s Rescue Coordination Center.

RCC’s helicopter has been grounded on one of the nearby platforms in case the pumps fail to work in order to evacuate passengers that have remained on the vessel.
