Major Drug Bust for Colombian Navy

The Colombian Navy seized 5.2 tons of cocaine aboard a merchant ship named Altic off the country’s Pacific coast.

The navy said on Tuesday that this was the biggest cocaine seizure in the last two years.

As informed, the operation was conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents.

The ship was intercepted some 190 miles from the southern port of Tumaco in Narino province while en route for Guatemala.

Fourteen crew members of the ship, including eight Colombians have been arrested.

The contraband is estimated to have over USD 142 million of street value.

The navy’s counternarcotics operations resulted in the seizure of 22.8 tons of cocaine this year.
