MAN Successful in Reducing CO2 Emissions

The MAN Group has publicly presented its successful achievements in the field of climate protection in its new Corporate Responsibility Report for 2012. Bearing the title “We are responsible.”, this is the third CR Report to be prepared by MAN in compliance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines.

In its publication, MAN delivers a positive assessment after three years of pursuing a CR strategy. The company is, for instance, able to announce success in reducing CO2 emissions at its 31 production sites, these having been lowered by 5% since 2008. The climate strategy drawn up by the MAN Group envisages reducing the emission of greenhouse gas by as much as 25% by 2020. For the first time, the CR Report includes information on the progress made along this path.

The key issue addressed in the report is however MAN´s efforts to enhance the future for its customers by, for instance, presenting innovative solutions for sustainable transport in the urban areas of the future. The Euro VI technology used in its new TG models already guarantees virtually zero pollution operation of commercial vehicles. Priority is now being given to the vehicles´ CO2 emissions. In the area of Power Engineering, the report presents, among other things, products using renewable energy as drivers for more climate protection and introduces MAN technology for the after-treatment of exhaust gas emitted by large ships.

Efficiency and emission reduction are among the key developments targeted by MAN. But in spite of all the high-tech, its CR endeavors are all focused on people. This was made clear by Jochen Schumm, Chief Human Resources Officer at MAN SE and MAN Truck & Bus AG, during the presentation held in the Munich Truck Forum: “None of our success would be possible without a top team made up of excellent staff members. Our employees are indeed the greatest lever in actively implementing entrepreneurial responsibility at MAN. To firmly anchor CR in our company, we have to sensitize the top team, putting it in a position to assume responsibility for day-to-day activities.“ Sixty invited guests from the automobile and component industry, regional businesses, politics and customers met at MAN to enter into a dialogue on the subject of corporate responsibility.

MAN voluntarily submitted the CR Report to the audit firm PricewaterhouseCoopers for a full-scale independent audit in accordance with the International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE) 3000.
