Mexico: CFE Declares Force Majeure at Manzanillo LNG Terminal

La Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico’s state utility, said in a statement it had declared force majeure last week on imports into the Manzanillo LNG terminal after Hurricane Manuel damaged the Guadalajara Pipeline, owned by TransCanada.

“The force majeure derived from a possible break in the pipeline involving a natural gas leak due to heavy rains and flooding,” the statement revealed.

“This situation has affected the LNG supply from at least one vessel scheduled to arrive at the Manzanillo terminal on 21 September,” CFE added.

The 500,000 Mc/d import terminal, built and owned by a consortium of Samsung and Mitsui, each with a stake of 37.5%, and Kogas, with 25%, is the third of its type in Mexico.
