Meyer Turku Lays Keel for New Mein Schiff 2

Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku laid the keel of New Mein Schiff 2, the sixth next-generation cruise ship being built for German cruise line TUI Cruises, on October 5.

This milestone marks the beginning of the hull assembly for New Mein Schiff 2, scheduled to be delivered to its owner in early 2019. It will be a sister ship to New Mein Schiff 1, which will be handed over from Meyer Turku in the spring of 2018. Both ships are based on the design of their predecessor, Mein Schiff 6.

With a total length of 315 meters, the latest vessel will be 20 meters longer than Mein Schiff 6. It will be capable of carrying 2,894 guests.

“With new Mein Schiff 1 and 2 we will get two great new ships to lead our fleet in the coming years. We are very happy to see how these ships are taking form,” Wybcke Meier, TUI Cruises CEOs, said.

The company’s New Mein Schiff 1 was recently floated out from Meyer Turku’s dry dock in Finland. Following the completion of its assembly from giant blocks and the float-out, the ship will undergo further interior outfitting before delivery.

New Mein Schiff 1 will be officially named in Hamburg on May 11, 2018, and begin operating shortly afterwards, the company earlier said.
