MHWirth in new round of layoffs

MHWirth_in_new_round_of_layoffsMHWirth, an international provider of drilling solutions and services to the oil and gas industry, will be laying off between 500 and 800 employees worldwide.

MHWirth has 3,300 employees, more than a third employed in its headquarters in Kristiansand, Norway. The company already slashed around 100 jobs this year from several locations in Norway.

Offshore Energy Today reached out to MHWirth seeking more information about the location and numbers of the employees that will be affected by this decision.

In an email to Offshore Energy Today, MHWirth spokesperson said: “Tentatively, we estimate the numbers to be in the range of 500-800 employees globally over the  next 12 months if the market stays challenging. This includes both permanent and temporary staff. We do not have the detailed overview of which locations that will be affected.”

The spokesperson added: “Our order backlog is still substantial, and the capacity will be adjusted as projects are delivered to customers. We have around 20 projects under construction, and in addition equipment deliveries to several drill ships estimated for 2017-2018. This secures a long term order backlog.

“However – the market is demanding, and we have to ensure that we have the right capacity to execute, and to be able to take on potential new contracts. We will use the next coming weeks to evaluate our capacity need, and adjust accordingly.”
