MHWirth to supply drilling package for West White Rose project

MHWirth, a drilling solutions provider owned by Akastor, has received a contract from Wood Group for the delivery of a drilling package for the West White Rose Project offshore Canada.

MHWirth said on Friday that this includes the supply of equipment, engineering, and services for the project.

Husky Energy is the operator of the West White Rose development, together with its co-venture partners. This will be a fixed facility with a platform supported by a concrete gravity structure (CGS).

The platform will serve as a fixed drilling rig and will be located approximately 350 kilometers southeast of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada, at the White Rose field. The primary function of the platform will be drilling and will include limited processing facilities and permanent accommodations.

Finn Amund Norbye, CEO of MHWirth, said: “This is the first complex offshore drilling package awarded in the market in the past several years. We are looking forward to working closely with Husky and Wood Group on this project.”

Earlier this month, Husky Energy awarded Kvaerner a contract to tow and install the CGS for the West White Rose project while the construction of the CGS would be performed by a partnership between SNC-Lavalin, Dragados Canada, and Pennecon.

The engineering work for the topsides of the White Rose wellhead platform was awarded in June to Wood Group.

First oil from West White Rose is expected in 2022, and the project is anticipated to achieve a gross peak production rate of approximately 75,000 barrels per day in 2025.
