Ministers visit Klaipeda LNG terminal

Lithuanian Minister of Energy Rokas Masiulis and Estonian Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Kristen Michal visited the LNG terminal in Klaipeda, discussing energy projects in both countries and prospects of regional gas market development.

“Close cooperation between Lithuania and Estonia is crucial in order to ensure that the Baltic States could establish a fully functioning common gas market as soon as possible,” said Masiulis.

Estonias Minister of Economy Kristen Michal added that the LNG terminal can contribute to the security of gas supply in the whole Baltic region, so it was a valuable experience to learn more about its activities in Lithuania, the country’s Ministry of Energy revealed in a statement.

“Estonia is always positive about possible ways to take the advantage of a variety of alternatives in energy supply and then achieve energy security. KlaipÄ—da LNG terminal is one of those ways,” said Michal.

Ministers also discussed progress in the implementation of the Lithuanian-Polish gas pipeline (GIPL) project, power links that are planned to be finished at the end of this year in Lithuania and cooperation in the implementation of the Baltic countries synchronization with the continental European networks project.
