MOL Names LNG Carrier

Tokyo-based Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has organised a naming ceremony for a newbuilding LNG carrier for Osaka Gas at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Nagasaki Shipyard. 

The 155,000 cbm LNG Mars was ordered by MOL and Osaka Gas International Transport, a wholly owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas, and built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The vessel is co-owned by MOL and Osaka Gas International Transport, and will serve a wide variety of projects including Osaka Gas’ Gorgon Project.

The LNG Mars is 288 meters long, with a breadth of 49 meters and a draft of 11.5 meters. It features MOSS independent stretched spherical-type tank system, with continuous tank cover.

It is powered by a reheating system steam turbine and can reach speeds of up to 19.5 knots.
