MOL signs new charter deal with Tokyo LNG Tanker

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines said it has signed a basic joint ownership and a minimum 20-year charter deal for a 165,000 cbm LNG newbuilding with Tokyo Gas unit, Tokyo LNG Tanker.

At the same time MOL signed a shipbuilding contract with Japan Marine United Corporation and the vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2018, reveals a company statement.

This is the third vessel MOL will manage, following two previous newbuilding LNG carriers, which the company contracted with Tokyo LNG Tanker and JMU on February 28 and November 28 this year.

The most recent newbuilding, together with the other two will be used to transport LNG from Cove Point LNG project in the United States to Tokyo Gas facilities.

Together with the new vessel, MOL is involved in operating 11 out of 14 LNG carriers owned and operated by Tokyo LNG Tanker, directly managing eight of those vessels.
