MOL Starts LNG Coastal Shuttle Project in Indonesia

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has teamed up with Indonesia-based PT Pelindo Energi Logistik (PEL) to launch joint shuttle transport operation of the 2000-built LNG carrier Triputra.

Featuring a length of 151 meters and a breath of 28 meters, the Triputra, which conducted the project’s first discharging operation at the Port of Benoa on Bali Island, was chartered for a period of seven years, starting from April 2016.

With a cargo tank capacity of 23,014cbm, the vessel is expected to transport a volume of 200,000 to 300,000 tons on an annual basis.

According to data provided by MOL, Triputra will load its cargo in the Port of Benoa in Bali and discharge it at Bontang Terminal.

PEL, the charterer, is working to establish a gas value chain with the new method-transferring LNG discharged to FSU to the floating regasification unit (FRU) moored at the pier.

This facility regasifies the LNG and pipes the gas to a power plant on Bali.

This is the second Indonesian coastal shuttle transport project following the one secured by MOL in 2011 for West Java.

Under the first project a vessel shuttle transports LNG to the Port of Benoa and discharges it to a floating storage unit (FSU) moored there.
