MOL Starts Testing New Engine Monitoring System

Tokyo-based Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has started a demonstration test of a condition-based engine monitoring system called “CMAXS e-GICSX” (electronic Global Internet Customer Support neXt) aboard the recently delivered methanol carrier Mayaro.

The system relies on early detection of abnormalities in the electronically controlled engine to ensure correct preventive maintenance and reduce life cycle costs.

The test is a cooperation between MOL, the international classification society ClassNK, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES), and MES Technoservice.

The “CMAXS e-GICSX” uses the combination of technologies accumulated through MES’s “e-GICS” system and a data analysis function using ClassNK’s “CMAXS” system.
