MOL takes delivery of Kumul LNG carrier

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines on Friday said it has taken delivery of the LNG carrier Kumul from the Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding. 

The vessel that was named in April was ordered by MOL’s unit Gemini LNG Shipping is the last in a series of four LNG carriers ordered by MOL to transport liquefied natural gas from the ExxonMobil’s projects in Papua New Guinea and Australia, MOL said in its statement.

Like its sister ship Papua delivered in January 2015, Kumul will serve the ExxonMobil-operated Papua New Guinea LNG project.

The vessel owned 70 percent by MOL and 30 percent by CCSC and Sinopec JV has the capacity to transport 171,8000 cbm of liquefied natural gas.

In 2010, ExxonMobil signed a long-term charter agreement with MOL for the four newbuilds that would transport liquefied natural gas from its LNG projects in Papua New Guinea and Australia.

The two other vessels under the contract at Hudong-Zhonghua, the Southern Cross and the Beidou Star were delivered in June and November, respectively, and will be used to deliver liquefied natural gas from the Gorgon LNG project in Australia.
