Mozambique’s second FLNG project on TechnipFMC’s to-do list

Italian oil & gas giant Eni has awarded TechnipFMC with a subsea contract for the second floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project offshore Mozambique.

TechnipFMC has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation contract by Eni for the Coral North FLNG development, under which it shall manufacture and install flexible flowlines and risers, as well as install subsea manifolds and umbilicals.

The contract is said to be substantial, which the company defines as one valued between $250 million and $500 million.

Jonathan Landes, President, Subsea for TechnipFMC, said: “We are excited to once again work with Eni and their consortium partners in Mozambique. We will leverage our experience gained from the successful delivery of Coral South—the world’s first FLNG project in ultradeep water—by replicating our proven playbook with an enhanced approach.”

Located in water depths of approximately 2,000 meters, the Coral North project aims to produce gas from the northern part of Area 4 Coral gas reservoir in the supergiant Rovuma basin through what Eni says will be a state-of-the-art floating LNG facility, joining the one already working at the area – Coral South.

Eni says Coral North will be the second large-scale FLNG delivered in ultra-deep waters worldwide, after Coral South. The anticipated start of production is 2028.

The final investment decision (FID) to develop the FLNG project was reached in October.
