MTCC Wins Gaaf Dhaalu Coastal Protection Contract

Republic of Maldives’ Ministry of Environment and Energy has signed a contract with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) for building coastal protection structures at Gaaf Dhaalu atoll Madaveli Island.

The purpose of this project is to nourish, protect and prevent the Gaaf Dhaalu areas vulnerable to erosion from further deterioration.

The project also includes construction of 454.5 m rock revetment in Gahdhoo, the Ministry stated in its announcement.

This is the fifth coastal protection project in this year which is financed by the Government of Maldives.

Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, signed the contract on behalf of the Ministry while the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC, Mr. Ibrahim Ziyath, inked the deal on behalf of the company.

This coastal protection scheme is expected to be completed in 150 days.
