Nakilat’s fleet director talks up LNG at Dubai event

Qatar’s Nakilat took part in the ME Shiptech Forum 2014 in Dubai, with Nakilat ‘s Fleet Director making a presentation at the event.

Nakilat ‘s Fleet Director, Samir Bailouni, made a presentation to the delegates during the event, speaking about viable alternative shipping industry fuels and the role of the Middle East in the ever-changing landscape of the shipping market. He also addressed themes such as the use of LNG as fuel, regulations, and safety.

Bailouni said, “With the low sulphur fuel regulations coming into force on 1st January 2015, LNG as marine fuel has come to the forefront. LNG has always been handled by specially designed vessels and by qualified, experienced and specifically-trained staff, hence its exemplary safety track record during its 50 years of existence.”

There has been a total of only 40m3 of reported spillages from LNG transfers in 50 years which is very different from that of the fuel oil bunkering records, added Bailouni.
