Neste Jacobs named owner’s engineer for Baltic Connector project

The Finnish engineering company Neste Jacobs signed an agreement with Baltic Connector, a state-owned company, to provide project management services for the natural gas pipeline project connecting Finland and Estonia.

In its statement on Thursday, Neste Jacobs said it will work as owner’s engineer in the integrated project management team.

The project will enable the interconnection and integration of the Baltic and Finnish gas markets to the EU’s internal energy markets. It will include building of a 150 kilometer long bi-directional gas transmission pipeline, from which 80 kilometers will be constructed offshore subsea between Paldiski (Estonia) and Inkoo (Finland) and two onshore gas transmission pipelines to Finland and in Estonia.

In addition, a gas metering station and two compressor stations to Inkoo and Paldiski will be built, Neste Jacobs said.

The construction of the project will start this month and it is estimated to be finished in December 2019. The transfer capacity of the completed pipeline will be 7.2 million cubic meters per day.

The project’s total cost estimated at €250 million, of which 75 percent will be covered through a €187.5 million grant from the European Commission, Finnish ministry of economic affairs and employment informed in July.
