Neste to Supply Polferries with Low-Sulfur Marine Fuel

Finland-based oil refining firm Neste and Polish ferry operator Polferries have agreed on the delivery of low-sulfur marine fuel for the Nynäshamn-Gdansk route in 2017.

According to Panu Kopra, Executive Vice President of Neste Oil Retail, the cooperation between the duo is enabled by the fact that Neste’s product distribution services are expanding to Sweden.

“Environmental friendliness and compliance with international regulations are of utmost importance to us. We chose Neste because of the high-quality and low-sulfur products it offers,” Piotr Redmerski, CEO of Polferries, said.

Low-sulfur marine fuels are needed for sulfur emissions to be reduced and strict regulations to be met. In addition, the use of marine fuels requires little or no investment or changes to existing vessels.

Current EU and national regulations demand lower sulfur emissions from ships operating in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and in the English Channel.
