New Budget Proposal, Harwich to Become Wind Port? (UK)

A new budget proposal has increased a chance for Harwich to become a wind port.

More than 100 MPs have written to the Prime Minister David Cameron calling for a dramatic cut to the £500 million a year subsidies for onshore wind farms and more influence for the local people to stop them being built. They have also demanded to spread the saving between other types of reliable renewable energy production and energy efficiency measures.

Bernard Jenkin, MP for Harwich and North Essex, would like to see more money invested in offshore wind measures.

Last year in February, Jenkin chaired a summit to discuss a proposed wind port in Harwich, with the aim of bringing mass rejuvenation and investment to the area.
