New Fortress Energy to supply gas to JPS’ Bogue power station

Jamaica’s energy company JPS has selected US-based New Fortress Energy as the preferred supplier to provide a long-term natural gas solution for its power plants.

JPS is in the process of finalising agreement with Fortress for the supply of gas to facilitate the conversion of its 120-megawattt power plant in Western Jamaica, at Bogue, Montego Bay. The agreement is expected to be finalized by the end of this month, the company said in a statement.

New Fortress Energy was selected from a list of eight bidders who had responded to JPS’ request for proposals earlier this year.

The company, a part of the Fortress Investment Group, will supply the gas to Jamaica from the first liquefaction facility in Florida.

The gas-supply agreement between JPS and Fortress will pave the way for work to begin on the infrastructure needed for the delivery of gas to Bogue by early 2016, the statement added.
