New GLNG Workforce Accommodation Camp Opens Near Roma

Santos GLNG’s Upstream Operations workforce has moved into a new permanent accommodation camp 40 kilometres off the Warrego Highway near Roma.

Personnel that work at the Roma gas compression hub are staying at the 80-person camp, which was built by Walton Construction.

Santos Vice President Queensland Trevor Brown said the business was delivering on a promise it made to the Maranoa community in the early planning stages of workforce accommodation arrangements.

The Maranoa Regional Council and the community told us during lengthy consultations that they wanted us to house our non-local employees in permanent camps,” Trevor said.

Santos GLNG’s permanent camps are dry camps. They have first aid rooms and trained first aid personnel on site.

Wherever possible, supplies for the camps are sourced from local businesses.

Santos GLNG now has five permanent accommodation camps.

The traditional owners of the land, the Mandandanji people, named the facility ‘Unburri’ meaning men.
