NIGC could export gas to Afghanistan

The National Iranian Gas Company said it considers the neighboring country Afghanistan as a potential destination for gas exports.

Managing director of NIGC Hamidreza Araqi said the issue has not been raised at governmental level so far, but a number of private sector companies have expressed their willingness for supplying gas needs of the Afghanistan cities located near the border with Iran, stands in the NIGC statement.

“Currently, the possibility exists for Iran to pipe natural gas to border cities of Afghanistan through a 100-kilometer pipeline from Iran’s South Khorasan province,” Araqi said.

Iran can also export gas to Afghanistan through mini-LNG projects, the official added.

Araqi noted that NIGC is ready to provide necessary infrastructures for gas exports to Afghanistan.
