Nigeria Turns Over Pirates to Interpol

MT Gare, a vessel believed to had been used by the pirates to hijack other ships, together with three suspected pirates were handed over to Interpol by the Nigerian Navy.

 

Commander of Nigerian Navy’s NNS Delta, Musa Gemu stated that the vessel MT Gare had been used in the hijacking of MT Kerala, off the coast of Angola on January 18th, 2014, writes the Premium Times.

MT Kerala was then used  to siphon over 75,000 metric tons of Automated Gasoline Oil, AGO, off the coast of Angola.

The cargo was estimated to be worth over $10m.

According to Gemu, the suspects had been apprehended back in March 2014.

The Gulf of Guinea has been hit by a surging number of piracy cases over the recent years causing headaches to both shippers and the international community .
