NLI Offshore Teams Up with HHI

Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries has invited NLI Offshore & Marine Products to provide its LNG tank technology suitable for fuel tanks, bunkering and storage solutions or large LNG fuelled container vessels.

The pioneering project is being developed within the framework of a partnership between Hyundai Heavy Industries LTD (HHI) and Lloyds Register of Shipping (LRS).

The project comes in the wake of a strong growth in number of LNG fuelled vessels world wide, the development of which was spurred by pursuit of alternative environmentally-friendly solutions aimed at cutting emmissions.

Petter Mangelrød, the Managing Director of NLI Offshore & Marine Products, commented: “We consider HHI’s LNG fuelled large container vessel concept to be a major step forward for LNG as a shipping fuel. We are extremely excited for this opportunity to provide our technology to the world’s leading ship builder.”

“Although most of the projects currently contracted are medium to small size vessels, we see a strongly growing interest form ship owners and ship yards for large LNG fuelled container vessels and other types of mega ships, Mangelrød continues. We strongly believe our self-supporting atmospheric tank solution is a good match for these vessels.”
