NordLink Project Approved by Norwegian Gov’t

The Norwegian Government issued the necessary licenses for the construction of 1.4 GW NordLink HVDC, the first power connection between Norway and Germany.

“This link will make the exchange of renewable energies possible, in particular of hydroelectric and wind energy,” said German Minister of Economy and Energy, Sigmar Gabriel. “NordLink will contribute to the [energy] supply security on both sides.”

The 623 kilometer long DC submarine cable is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

The Norwegian grid operator Statnett holds a 50% share in this project while TenneT and KfW each hold a share of 25%.
