Normandie 3 Subsea Cable Jointing in Progress

Work on jointing the Normandie 3 subsea cable to the Jersey land cable has started, last week, in the transition bay at Long Beach car park. The operation by Prysmian’s specialist engineers is expected to take about two weeks.

The corresponding land/sea transition joint in France was completed last week and the regulator equipment is now in position at PĂ©riers in France (pictured above) where Normandie 3 joins the French grid.

The installation of the Jersey land power cable has also been completed and the six sections of the 7km length have been jointed although some further testing is required. The next stage is to complete the terminations at South Hill Switching Station where Normandie 3 joins the network.

Work in Jersey on installing the fibre optic cables that carry communication data along the entire route continues. Once complete the complex commissioning and testing process is expected to start.
