Northern Petroleum Appoints Non-Executive Chairman

Northern Petroleum Plc announces that Jon Murphy has been appointed as Non-executive Chairman of the Company, with immediate effect. Jon Murphy has over 30 years of experience in the exploration and production industry.

In 1999,  Murphy joined Venture Production plc as a board director in the role of Chief Operating Officer. He played a key role in Venture’s growth from a private equity-backed small business, through its flotation in 2002, and on to the sale of the business to Centrica for approximately £1.3 billion in 2009.

Murphy holds a B.Sc. in Geology from the University of London and began his career in 1979 as a logging geologist. Jon spent his early industry years in the North Sea and South-East Asia before moving to Lasmo plc in 1989 where he held several positions in geology, planning and new business, while being based in both the UK and Asia.

Jon is currently a Non-executive Director of AIM quoted Trinity Exploration and Production plc, having been closely involved with its growth since inception.

Keith Bush, Chief Executive Officer of Northern, commented:

“We are extremely happy to welcome Jon to Northern as Chairman. His extensive experience in the industry and understanding of how to grow and build E&P businesses will be invaluable to the Company. We look forward to him challenging the executive team and providing guidance and mentorship to the board and Company as a whole.”
