Earlier this year ANDRITZ HYDRO increased its shareholding in Hammerfest Strøm AS and became the majority shareholder in the Company. Other major shareholders are the Spanish utility company Iberdrola and the local Norwegian utility company Hammerfest Energi. The company will operate under the name of ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest with immediate effect.

Managing Director of ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest, Stein Atle Andersen, says:

“We are very pleased to see ANDRITZ HYDRO increases its stake in the Company. ANDRITZ HYDRO, part of the international ANDRITZ GROUP, is a strong industrial player and will ensure the future technical, industrial and commercial development of ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest”

The Company installed a 1000kW turbine, named HS1000, at the European Marine Energy Centre in December 2011. HS1000 was feeding the grid already in February 2012.

The HS1000 turbine is based on the technology tested in a 300kW prototype which was installed in Northern-Norway and became the world’s first tidal current turbine to be connected to a public grid in 2004.
