Norway: A/S Norske Shell Gets the Nod for Well 6305/4-2 S Drilling


The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted A/S Norske Shell a drilling permit for well 6305/4-2 S, cf. Section 8 of the Resource Management Regulations.

Well 6305/4-2 S will be drilled from the West Navigator(photo) drilling facility at position 63°38’ 14.97” north and 5°17’ 54.15” east, after completing the drilling of production well 6305/7-D 3 H for A/S Norske Shell on the Ormen Lange field.

The drilling program for well 6305/4-2 S applies to the drilling of an appraisal well in production licence 209 on Ormen Lange. A/S Norske Shell is the operator with an ownership interest of 17.04 per cent. The other licensees in the field are Exxon Mobil Exploration and Production Norway A/S (7.23 per cent), Dong E&P Norge AS (10.34 per cent), Statoil Petroleum AS (28.92 per cent) and Petoro AS (36.47 per cent). The area in this permit consists of parts of the blocks 6305/1, 6305/2, 6305/4 and 6305/5. The well will be drilled about 135 kilometres northeast of Kristiansund.

Production licence 209 was awarded on 2 February 1996 in the fifteenth licensing round on the Norwegian shelf. This is the fifth well drilled in the licence.

The permit is contingent upon the operator having secured all other permits and consents required by other authorities before the drilling starts.
