Norway Awards 24 Licenses in 22nd Licensing Round

The Norwegian government has decided to offer 24 licenses in its 22 licensing round. The awards include 20 licenses in the Barents Sea and four in the Norwegian Sea. Out of the 36 companies which applied for the acreage in this round, 29 companies have been offered shares, while 14 companies are offered operatorship. 

“I am very pleased to offer 24 licenses to 29 companies. The interest of the companies has been great, and they have delivered many good applications. This confirms that the Norwegian shelf is a very interesting petroleum province, says Petroleum and Energy Minister Ola Borten Moe.

This licensing round is targeting frontier areas in the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea. 86 blocks were announced in the 22nd licensing round – 14 blocks in the Norwegian Sea and 72 blocks in the Barents Sea.

Ola Borten Moe said he was pleased with the attention Norway’s northernmost areas have been receiving in recent years.

He said that “this will contribute to future growth and employment in both the north and the rest of the country”
