Norway: Maersk Rigs for Brynhild Field Development

Maersk Drilling has signed a contract with Lundin Norway AS for an ultra harsh environment jack-up rig to carry out subsea field development of the Brynhild Field in Norway. The contract will be for MAERSK GUARDIAN or MÆRSK GIANT to be declared by 1 January 2013.

The firm contract duration is for three wells of approximately 325 days and also includes two options for one well each. The contract value for the firm three-well period is approximately USD 97 million. The contract is expected to commence between 1 March 2013 and 1 June 2013.

“We are very pleased to enter into this contract with Lundin, one of the leading operators in Norway. This contract demonstrates that our rigs are well prepared for the high potential within smaller subsea development projects with tieback to existing infrastructure,” says Claus V. Hemmingsen, CEO of Maersk Drilling and member of the Executive Board of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group.

MÆRSK GIANT and MÆRSK GUARDIAN are sister rigs of Hitachi Zosen design and are built for operation in ultra harsh environments such as the Norwegian North Sea.

Brynhild Field, previously known as Nemo, is located in the Norwegian North Sea a few kilometers East of the boundary to UK waters at a water depth of around 80 meters. This project is being developed by Lundin Petroleum as operator of the field, their first in Norway.

The development of Brynhild will be a three well subsea tie-back to the Pierce FPSO located in the United Kingdom, 38 km south of the field.

The estimated gross reserves are approximately 20 million barrels of oil equivalents (MMboe) with net peak production of approximately 6,000 barrels of oil equivalents per day (boepd). The hydrocarbons will be processed at the Pierce FPSO before being offloaded for further transportation
