Russia’s Yamal LNG project is progressing well and Novatek, the operator of the project, has drilled 14 production wells as part of the project until now, Novatek’s CFO Mark Gyetvay said at the Flame conference currently being held in Amsterdam.

According to Gyetvay, about 5550 workers are employed on the project and the current construction activities include an international airport, large roads and pipe laying.

“Novatek is opening a new route as it is the first company transporting hydrocarbons through the Northern Sea route,” he said, adding that the Yamal LNG fleet will comprise 16 icebreaking LNG tankers.

The capacity of the liquefaction plant will be 16.5 Mt/y, but this could be doubled or even tripled, he added.
