Oil and gas commissioning firm names new managing director

Oil and gas commissioning company Magma Products has appointed a new managing director.

Magma said on Tuesday that the company had named Philip Tweedy as its new managing director.

Tweedy, previously a commissioning manager at Magma, will be responsible for day-to-day operations at the company’s Aberdeen, Great Yarmouth, and Bucharest offices.

Paul Rushton, the previous managing director, will assume the role of chairman. He will have a focus on strategy, growth, and business development with a number of industry projects due to come on stream in late 2019 and 2020.

Rushton said: “The appointment of Phil as managing director ensures a smooth transition for the team, our clients and current projects. His promotion will allow me to focus on the development of the business and winning additional projects as the demand for commissioning and start-up expertise grows over the next 18 months.”

Regarding his appointment, Tweedy said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed to this pivotal role within the business. My role will see me take on responsibility for day-to-day operations while I will also support Paul in delivering the overall strategy for the business.”

The company added that both Rushton and Tweedy would continue to be based out of the Aberdeen office where the company manages projects in the North Sea, West Africa, and mainland Europe.

Magma also said in its statement that it was completing a compressor refurbishment project and also hoped to win additional business in Romania in the next few weeks.

A former engineer with British Coal, Tweedy moved into the oil and gas industry in 1991 and has worked in commissioning ever since. He worked on projects for a number of companies including Harland and Wolff, Halliburton Brown and Root, Amec, Nexen, BP, Qedi, and Shell, before joining Magma Products in 2013.
