Oil Major to Hire Eirik Raude Rig for Drilling Offshore Ireland

Ocean Rig UDW Inc., a Cyprus based drilling contractor specializing in offshore deepwater drilling services, has received a Letter of Intent for its semi-submersible drilling rig “Eirik Raude”.

The drilling contractor, however, wouldn’t reveal the name of the client, but said that the LoI came “from an oil major”.

The Letter of Intent is for a one-well program, with an estimated duration of up to 6 months, for drilling offshore Ireland. Estimated backlog of the potential contract  is approximately $112 million, including mobilization and demobilization. Eirik Raude is expected to start the contract in the first quarter of 2013, in direct continuation from its previous contract in West Africa.
