Onondaga Lake Dredging Starts Soon

The long-awaited $451 million Onondaga Lake dredging project is about to begin, according to Syracuse.com.

As Honeywell officials have stated, dredging of the contaminated lake bottom will commence this spring or summer. The work is expected to continue over four construction seasons.

State Department of Environmental Conservation officials have said the dredging will take place 24 hours a day, Monday through Saturday.

This dredging project will be undertaken in a small portion of the lake, about 450 acres of the 3,000-acre lake, along the southwest shore off Interstate 690, DEC officials said.

Most of the project is scheduled to be completed by 2016 and the county is scheduled to finish its work by 2018.
