Oshima Group Plans to Build New Shipyard in Vietnam

Japan-based Oshima Group is planning to build a new shipyard costing some VND3,800bn ($184.6m) in Cam Ranh City, Vietnam.

Oshima has reached an agreement with the local authorities last week to build the new yard on an area of 304 hectares. An investment licence will be issued to Oshima later this year and construction is slated to begin during 2012-13, and the yard is projected to be operational by 2017. The yard will mainly build cargo vessels with capacities of between 37,000-56,000 gross tonnes and improve shipbuilding technology in Vietnam.
