Pacific Northwest LNG given more time for public consultation

Pacific NorthWest LNG, a unit of Petronas, has received a 45-day extension to the provincial environmental review process from the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BC EAO).

Pacific NorthWest LNG requested the extension to allow more time for additional public consultation with First Nations and local communities.

Pacific NorthWest LNG held open houses in Port Edward and Prince Rupert in April 2014, and continues to meet with First Nations and members of the community. The project has offices in Prince Rupert and Port Edward which are open to the public to receive more information or ask questions about the project, the company said in a statement.

A decision from the provincial government is expected by the end of the year. The extension is not anticipated to affect the project’s timelines, including a final investment decision, the statement added.

The USD 11 billion Pacific NorthWest LNG project is a proposed natural gas liquefaction and export facility on Lelu Island within the District of Port Edward on land administered by the Prince Rupert Port Authority. The facility would liquefy and export natural gas produced by Progress Energy Canada.
