Palfinger cranes for Statoil's Mariner platform

The Mariner platform will be established at the Statoil-operated Mariner field, which is located on the East Shetland Platform of the UK North Sea. The main operator of the field is Statoil. Production is expected to start in 2017. The platform will convey an average of 55,000 barrels of oil per day.

Three ATEX-certified travelling cranes equipped with double-safety system
Palfinger Dreggen is delivering two TKU25 underslung travelling cranes with a safe working load (SWL) of 25 t and a span of 14 m and one TKU75 underslung travelling crane with SWL of 75 t and a 14 m span as well. Both cranes are DNV certified. The TKU75 is designed to transfer the blowout preventer (BOP) and its subassemblies.Mariner map

The TKU25 will be operating to transport material and equipment to the well intervention cathedral area. Both travelling cranes are equipped with two hoist units that each have double capacity. In case one of the hoists should fail, the remaining one will safely be able to hold the load. Palfinger says that this very important double-safety system was required by the platform operator for lifting over pressurised equipment that is at high risk if the load drops.
