Patrol Vessel ICGS ABHINAV Commissioned

ICGS ABHINAV, the 3rd of 20 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV) being built by Cochin Shipyard for the Indian Coast Guard was commissioned today.

The shipyard signed the contract for the construction of the 20 FPVs for the Indian Coast guard on October 20th 2010. The yard has so far delivered two vessels ICGS ‘Abheek’ and ‘ICGS Aadesh’. The first vessel was commissioned on December 13th and the second on December 31st 2013.

Like its sister ships, the ‘ABHINAV’ also can move very fast at a speed of 33 knot s and will be very effective in supporting the Indian Coast Guard in its anti smuggling, anti piracy operations and fisheries protection and monitoring.

The ship is propelled by water jets and powered by three Main Engines, each of capacity-2720 KW and built to the dual classification requirements of ABS and IRS.
