Pemex Hires Carlos Slim's Rig for $415 Mln

Mexico’s national oil and gas company Pemex has hired an offshore drilling rig from Carso Group. The Carso Group is owned by the riches man in the world, Carlos Slim, whose net worth is, according to Forbes, estimated at  $73 billion.

Under the agreement, Pemex will operate the rig on a seven year contract and will pay $415 million. The rig is owned by Operadora Cicsa, a subsidiary of Carso Group.

The jack-up rig, named Independencia 1, is the first ever offshore rig built in Mexico. Pemex will use the rig for operations in the Mexican sector of the Gulf of Mexico.
