Plans for the creation of the Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre (PTEC) off the coast of Isle of Wight are concerning local fishermen.

Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre Concerns Local Fishermen

As BBC reports, PTEC, which carried out consultations with the fishing industry, said: “Evidence from other tidal energy projects suggests that PTEC could create hundreds of jobs and attract significant investment into the local economy.

“The tidal energy center is still in the early stages of planning and if it gets the green light it will put the Isle of Wight at the forefront of the marine renewables industry.”

The fishermen are concerned about PTEC’s site located off St Catherine’s Point as it is a vital fishery development area.

The fishermen noted that there are other sites which would have less impact on the fishery.

A public exhibition to explain the scheme is being held on Wednesday, 19 March, at The Spyglass Inn, Ventnor, BBC reported.
