Pertamina Expects to Sign New LNG Import Deal This Year

Pertamina of Indonesia hopes to finalise a deal this year to import 1-2 million tonnes of LNG per annum from a supplier in Africa or the United States, Reuters reported citing Harry Karyuliarto, director of Gas Pertamina as saying.

We have approached gas producers there (Africa and the U.S.) and we expect we will get a deal from one of them this year,” he said.

They said they will be ready to supply us at the start of 2018,” Karyuliarto added.

The imported LNG would be used to supply Arun terminal which, once completed, will be the first LNG export terminal converted into an import terminal.

Pertamina already has one LNG import deal for the Arun import project signed in December of 2013 with U.S.-based Cheniere Energy for 800,000 metric tons a year of LNG starting from 2018.
