Petrobras boosts pre-salt oil and gas production in August

Brazil’s state-owned oil company Petrobras has increased its pre-salt oil and gas production by 4 percent during August and set a new monthly record.

The oil company informed on Monday that its daily oil and natural gas production in August was 2.84 million barrels of oil equivalent (boed). Of this total, 2.72 million boed were produced in Brazil and 0.12 million boed were produced abroad.

Brazil hit record oil and gas monthly production in August, accompanied by a record daily average oil production of 2.22 barrels (bpd). In addition, Petrobras reached the new daily volume milestone of 2.33 million bpd on August 19, beating the previous daily record set of 2.30 million bpd, on December 22, 2014.

The sale of assets in Argentina had an impact of international production, with the company’s total production dropping 1.4%. International oil production contributed 68,000 bpd to the company’s average monthly production of 2.29 million bpd.

Pre-salt production increases 4 pct

Oil and natural gas production operated by Petrobras (own and partners’ share) in pre-salt fields grew by 4% in August, setting a new monthly record of 1.36 million boed.

This result was mainly due to the connection of new wells and the increased production in wells already connected to the FPSOs Cidade Maricá and Cidade de Saquarema, both installed in the Lula field, in the pre-salt area of the Santos Basin.

Oil production operated by Petrobras (own and partners’ share), in the pre-salt in August reached an average of 1.10 million bpd, which was also a monthly record. In addition, the daily oil production in that province reached record 1.22 million barrels on August 28.

Natural gas production in Brazil sets new record

The daily natural gas production in Brazil, excluding liquefied volume, was 79.5 million m³, up 0.1% on the previous month (79.4 million m³/day), setting a new monthly record.

Average natural gas production abroad was 9.6 million m³/day, down 40% from the 16 million m³/day produced in the previous month, which was due to the divestment of assets in Argentina.
