Petronet LNG: No Formal Response from Oman Govt on Gangavaram Terminal

Petronet LNG, India’s largest LNG importer, has not received formal response from the government of Oman regarding the Gangavaram LNG terminal, the company said in a filling to the stock exchange.

Earlier this month, several media reported that Oman’s oil minister Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy said that the country is looking to buy a stake in Petronet LNG’s planned import terminal at Gangavaram in Andhra Pradesh.

“We had a visit of a delegation led by the Minister of oil & gas, Sultanate of Oman during the Foundation Day celebrations of our company on April 02, 2014. PLL presented to the delegation the status of its various current and proposed projects with the visiting delegation, which also included a reference to the proposed LNG terminal at Gangavaram in the State of Andhra Pradesh being developed by Petronet as an SPV,” Petronet said in a statement.

“It seems that during discussions with certain news reporters, the Oman Minister may have spoken about Oman”s interest in taking equity in Gangavaram LNG terminal. However, we are yet to receive any formal response from the Oman Government,” the conmpany added.

The Gangvaram LNG terminal will be Petronet’s third LNG import terminal and it will have a capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum.
