Phase 2 of China’s first foreign-backed offshore wind farm enters construction

EDF Group and China Energy Investment Corporation (CEI) have kicked off the construction of the 200 MW Dongtai V offshore wind project in China.

The project is the second phase of the 500 MW Jiangsu Dongtai wind farm, the first offshore wind project in China built in collaboration with a foreign investor.

The first part of the project, the 300 MW Dongtai IV (H2), went into operation in December last year when all of its 75 4 MW turbines were switched on.

Dongtai V is planned to begin operating in early 2021.

Located 42 km off the coast of Dongtai, Jiangsu Province, Jiangsu Dongtai is also China’s farthest offshore wind farm.

In March last year, EDF and CEI signed the cooperation agreement for the projects. This summer, the parties signed the final joint venture agreements and reached financial closing.
